—Founder of the World Christian Temperance Union, Frances Willard

Frances Willard (1839-98) was elected national president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in 1879, a position she held for life. She was a temperance reformer and women's suffragist. This biographical work, written in reference to Willard's personal diary, is a research on her life. Willard headed the first mass organization of American women and inspired women to move into public life as equals to men.

The Korea Woman's Christian Temperance Union (KWCTU) was founded in 1923 and has since campaigned against alcohol and smoking, promoted peaceful cooperation between nations, and supported eradication of starvation and diseases, with aims to restore purity and peace and to serve God, the family, and the world at large.
